An artist that was a philosophy and pedagogy graduate of the University of Bucharest and later a decorative arts graduate of the "Nicolae Grigorescu" Fine Arts Institute, Cornelia Velcescu activated in the country until 1982, when she established in Paris. Her only personal exhibition in Romania was opened in 1969. Then, she participated in numerous collective exhibitions in the country and abroad, standing out through works of archaic inspiration, with anthropomorphic suggestions, but also through portraits. She realized, as well, a few monumental assemblies in mosaic and stone, destined for public space. One of Cornelia Velcescu`s favourite subjects is genesis, which she also plastically interpreted in workshop creations and in her large scale sculpture. The megalithic assemblies and the sanctuaries are one of the artist`s main inspiration sources.
