As an unusual picturesque figure in the contemporary artistic landscape, Mihai Tugearu is a sculptor strongly anchored in Romanian traditions which he tries to perpetuate in his art, without being influenced by current trends. He carves, but mostly he models, proving a great endowment and a solid passion for the latter technique. He brings forth in contemporary sculpture a powerful and original current that comes from the long lasting traditions of his ethnicity. Therefore, the animal figures, but the ethnically well-imprinted portraits as well, represent two of the most approached motifs in Mihai Tugearu’s sculpture. His sculpture is expressive, suggestive and allusive, capable of bringing in contemporaneity an authentic message. The vividness and the love for life are the most striking features of his works.
