A very peculiar personality in Romanian contemporary art, the painter Ecaterina Vrana undoubtedly succeeded to pass beyond the borders of a single language through extending the image from two dimensional to three dimensional. Many of her paintings are in fact reliefs born from overlapping paste on canvas, but other times the artist embodies her works three dimensionally. Being an advocate of minimalist representation attempting to go directly to the essence of the image purified of clichés and already trivialized conventions, Ecaterina Vrana often places herself at the core of the compositions, as their generator. The bitter-sweet comment and an inerrant ingenuity easily decipherable in her view of the close universe are
maybe the most striking features of Ecaterina Vrana’s art.
