With a promising and unconventional debut in the ninth decade, especially in what constitutes as a real rebellion against clichés, conventions, academicism and traditional materials, Ionel Stoicescu has gradually led his artistic activity to public forum works, some of them having exclusive decorative facets. In the beginning, the sculptor experimented with unconventional materials and he refuted the common perception of the three-dimensional object. He is one of the artists that build their exhibitions, establishing ways of communication between sculpture and architecture. This was probably the starting point of the works designed for urban public spaces, when sculpture had to communicate with the modern buildings, made from industrial materials. In postmodern spirits, Ionel Stoicescu has a good sense of self irony and self-reflexivity and he does not hesitate to exploit the fragment at the expanse of the ensemble.
