VRĂBIESCU, Şerban Teodor

CRITICAL REVIEW

Even if he belongs to the youngest generation of sculptors, Şerban Tudor Vrăbiescu remains attached to the classic subjects, materials and techniques. Professing rather a workshop sculpture, being less present in creation camps and not being one of the public forum art authors yet, he created a significant series of child portraits, with a certain character of study, treated in a realist manner, with an interest for the expressive physiognomic details and for capturing the peculiarities that individualize the faces. However, the artist also approaches men in other instances, using stone, wood and bronze and paying special attention to surfaces. Other series of works explore the non-figurative, geometric expression as well, in balanced compositions that highlight the contrasts between full and empty, horizontal and vertical.
