CRITICAL REVIEW

Equally interested in small and monumental sculpture, moulding and the metal casting techniques, and also in the wood, stone or marble carving, Alexandru Pamfil resourcefully explores all of these domains. The experience of the creation camps, visible both in the ample and smaller creations, proves the preference for compositions with compiled volumes, showing a tendency for monolithic and for the synthetism of signs. The accent is on linking the volumes in space, on the generous rhythm of forms with their articulated plans, a rhythm broken by small interventions, details that catch the eye. One can also reencounter similar coordinates in the small plastic, a genre permanently practiced by the artist alongside the monumental sculpture and the portrait. Sometimes the sculptor values the subtleties of the modeling technique, combining the relief and the three dimensional elements and configuring a universe where expressionist elements merge with surrealist accents in an unsettling vision of the human being. His works have the capacity to reconstruct with force and expressivity human individualities, finding often emblematic syntheses of the form. The rigor and the accuracy of technical execution, the capacity to capitalize the plastic qualities of the material, the clarity of conceptual composition, but also the way in which volumes and the shapes of his sculptures conquer space transform his creation in an unmistakable artistic universe, symbolically charged and filled with human meanings of a real value.
