CRITICAL REVIEW

As a versatile lover of sculptural academic materials, Oancea develops a parabolic-hieratic figurativeness. He adds carefully created props, preferably from metals, harnessing the luster, the colour and the reflection. The wood and the marble are roughly shaped, rigorously, decisively, axially, on sharp angles. The artist makes clear the geometric themes’ “hinges” and the “joints” of the anatomical realm, even by severe sectioning. His archaic looking humanoids are elliptical, especially their arms, and they are contaminated with faces of symbolic animals. When he clutters and weaves metallic thread to configure in space a cage, a nest or a mirror-chair, Oancea becomes ingenious and prolific.
