CRITICAL REVIEW

Able to be placed between the contemporary sculptors belonging to the "Neobyzantinism" movement, Dan Vlad Perianu focuses his entire creativity on religiously originated representations. His plastic approaches fully experience his devotion to polychrome wood, carved either in a basic or more detailed manner, appealing to the components with a great visual impact. Characters and scenes from the Old and New Testament represent a perpetual source of inspiration for the artist. Series of "Angels", "Gates", "Trumpets", to which are added stylized portrait of saints and martyrs, constitute / make up a spiritualized universe, concentrated upon the unseen world. Dan Vlad Perianu deflects from the religious themes only when he addressed the theme of "The Chimeras", but they also point to a type of detached reflection from the evanescent materiality of the earthly existence.
