CRITICAL REVIEW

Matei Ulmeanu’s sculptures are heavy and flamboyant, an essentialized expression of the memory of Gothic cathedrals. In the sculptor’s hands, the metal seems to come to life, it seems to tackle with a different kind of existence than that of the mineral ore or its pure industrial state. The sculptor ennobles the strength of metal through his idea, and the form of the concept gradually buds and completes / perfects itself, in a space in which "the word hurry does not mean anything". The young artist is interested in the effects that could be gained by the sculptural matter and the resulting shades from oxidation or gliding evolve towards a mirroring dynamic.  Together with Paul Popa he lays the foundation for the Patru la terre project.
