BARTHA, Ernö Ciupe

Arkhai Sculpture Park:
Strada Principală, nr. 442, Vlaha, Cluj

Designed as structures based on the balance of visual energies, animated by vague anthropomorphic elements, these hay “giants”, in a comic way, become harmless, in the same manner we know art used to have healing powers to face impulsive aggressiveness. Ernö Ciupe Bartha's aim by promoting this technique is to activate the self-consciousness of the modern man by means of surprising innovation (innovative due to the material used and the shapes created). The grass has become hay and in his works it appears like some sort of green ashes revealing the successions in time of human generations. Endowed with authentic creativity, the artist restates the debate about the implicit and explicit order of the world. The shapes in grass are given a circular movement, relevant allusion to the Earth’s cycles, what makes them becoming cultural agents. Ernö Ciupe Bartha’s art, an authentic, personal and definite plea for the holistic unity of the world of which man is merely an element of the eternal life, once taken from its expositional context and inserted into the natural or urban environment, generates a whole new perspective on "land art". Dissimulated or ironical, the artist creates strong connections: these fabulous creatures may become couple or fight, strong or precarious beings, overwhelmed by destiny or victorious because of their exuberant vitality, all of these as an effect of light fluctuations. His work has seduced art experts - artists working in television who decided to direct art films for TVR Cluj: The Giants (1998), The Long Road (1999), but also for the Hungarian televisions MTVI and Dune TV (1999).
