Theodor Aman was a very important personality who lived at the end of the XIXth century. The artist was best known for his painting and for his engraving. His name is mostly associated with de academic art style, but in reality his art is characterised by the fusion of most of the trends that were circulating at that time. His sculpture represents only an episodic sequence, but this does not mean it is insignificant. The assemblage of his artworks harmonise with Aman's decorative vision and mentality who is imagining his own home-studio as the reflection of his interests and concerns, of the remarkable position he holds in the intellectual and artistic society of the time. He realises several portraits (Leonardo and Michelangelo, medallions that decorate the facade of Aman's house in Bucharest) and furniture pieces luxuriantly decorated.
